Neutral Beams Provide Auxiliary Plasma Heating for
DIII-D:
There are eight ion sources. The system consists of 4 beamlines,
each beamline has 2 ion sources in parallel focused through a
common drift duct, Each ion source is capable of 2.5 MW Deuterium
beam with a design value of 80 kV beam energy and operating
voltages of up to 93 kV.
Plan View of DIII-D and Four Beamlines:
Two different injection angles (47° and 63° with respect to the
magnetic axis at R = 1.67m) are shown. Ion dumps are located
above the median plane for beamlines on the left and below for
those on the right.
